I confess up front. I am deplorable. But that is not because I am in the basket that HRC described, nor because I am entrenched as a supporter of the “Donald”. I am deplorable because I was born that way. So were you.
Wretched, deserving of condemnation, unworthy, despicably bad, are just a few of the words used to describe “deplorable.” The Word of God says that there is none righteous, not even one. It says that we are all sinners, poor, wretched, blind, deserving of condemnation. I am deplorable. You are deplorable. We are all deplorable, but the good news is Jesus Christ died on a cross to save the deplorables.
Jesus said to the Pharisees who were condemning Him for eating with sinners, I came to help those who are deplorable, not those who are too self righteous to acknowledge they are deplorable. Yes, that is my loose paraphrase, but it is the absolute sense of what He said.
Most everyone has a large basket of deplorables. The word that was tossed around a great deal this week that I find unacceptable is the word “unredeemable.” Because of Christ’s atoning work on the cross all deplorables are redeemable. Anyone who will repent and place their faith in Christ can be redeemed.
Every king who has ever lived, and every peasant are deplorables. Every presidential candidate, and every voter is deplorable. We are all in need of God’s redeeming grace.
